common text speech

This past summer wasn't the first time i had read the graphic novel Persepolis. I read it the spring semester of my senior year of high school. I enjoyed reading it then but i enjoyed reading even more this past summer. My senior year i only read the first book but the reading the second book as well as the first book was so much better. It made it much easier to relate to and be able to relate to my life now. The speaker tonight was very insightful about the text but also very confusing and wordy. I don't know how i felt about her presentation. I felt like it was very hard to follow and she was very textbook in the way she presented it to the class. It was hard to relate to and also to understand. I felt like she complicated something that was easy to comprehend. I just wasn't a fan of her presentation and the way she described graphic novels in general. No offense but a comic is a comic. Graphic novel is a fancy term for comic and i think she just didn't want to admit that. Overall i wasn't a fan of the speech on the "graphic novel" but was a fan of the book overall.

10-21-10 class and public transportation event

classsssssss
- I really enjoyed class last thursday. it was fun to learn more about baltimore and be able to connect things that i have done or seen to the new information we learned in class. i also thought getting a little more insight on ways to get around would be helpful since me and my friend mel were planning on going to the mall on saturday.

public transportation issue event
- so since we learned about other ways than the collegetown shuttle to get to the mall or other places i thought me and mel could handle it going to and from the mall. i was wrong. getting there we were fine but getting home was the issue. so we shopped for about five hours so we were exhausted by the time we needed to get back and it was dark out. so we took the public bus there and getting home we thought we would do the same. clearly that wasn't the case. we saw a bus went to see if that was it and it wasnt saw the college town shuttle and that wasn't going to loyola either saw another bus but that want it either so after an hour of trying to figure it out we just got a cab. i can't wait to have a car next year.

jerseyyyyyyy

so for fall break i went home to the dirty jersey! i have to admit i was nice to be home but it was weird being away from school. like when i was home thursday night i was like wait why am i not going back to my dorm. my mom said it was a good thing cause that means that i'm settled in and feel comfortable here. anywaysssss friday i went to visit my best friend at her school and we went to our favorite band's concert (mayday<333333) and she showed me around. legit i think her room is the size of our bathrooms in flannery and you have to wear shoes to go in the bathroom and have a key to unlock it, it was weird to say the least. we are so spoiled with the rooms here and to be honest i don't know how she does it. then saturday i went to a family party and got to see my family and then visited my other best friend at rutgers. it's nice that my friends decided to stay close to home cause that way whenever i'm home i can see them or if i go to see them i can stop home. i can't wait until both of them come visit me it's going to be so much fun and just can't wait! omg and being home i got to get a real bagel it was so good omg. also i got to drive my car and go to my favorite starbucks and it was just a nice change of pace and a good break for me. so i think that's about it..

hikeee

  • Hike (Sept 25): First off i just want to say that I am not the hiking type girl. I'm not big on and have never been. Two years ago my family's summer vacation trip was to the grand canyon. I enjoyed being able to go and see everything but the hiking was the only part that got to me. I kind of felt the same way about this hike knowing that I don't enjoy hiking as much as some people. Despite my feelings this hike was more fun than I expected. I really enjoyed the bonding experience with some of my friends and the fact that we got off campus for the day. Also, I felt like I got a really good workout in by going on this hike (no freshman 15 for me). The view at the end of the hike was beautiful. Even though I did have a lot of fun on the hike I'm not too sure I would be eager to do it again. I guess I am just not the hiking type of girl.

  • Reflections on the Mike Domritz lecture (Sep 13) - video: I finally got to see the video of this lecture and I thought it was so good! I wish I was able to go to it because it seemed really funny and had many points that seemed easy to relate to. I kept my attention and was really funny too. After watching the video I really wish I was able to go to it.

first post

  • reflections on the Mike Domritz lecture (Sep 13): Well I had club soccer try-outs so I missed the talk but as soon as I see the video of the talk I will post about it. (which I didn't make wah)
  • our Saturday tour: I really enjoyed the tour. It showed me parts of Baltimore that I nesecessarily didn't know about. I now know of a lot of the inner harbor that I want to explore more of. There are also a lot of places I discovered that will be fun to go to with my roommate, new friends, and also will be good when family and friends visit.
  • the activities fair on Sep 14th: I saw a lot of activities that really caught my interest and look like something I would like to be involved with. I signed up to get emails with the new autism group and a group that runs with people from the shelter (I forgot the name). I signed up for the autism group because my cousin is autistic and I want to do as much as I can to help him and children like him. I also want to do the running with the shelter people because it is a way to exercise as well as doing community service. I also recieved information on the fac and also about studing abroad.
  • the service fair on the 15th: Today at the service fair I recieved information on ways to help the community through activities that involve the youth of Baltimore. I also signed up for The Community Service Council because the way it is set up is similar to the way my high school did service. This program is kind of do what you want when you can. I can do more when I feel like I have more free time and I am not committed to something every week. If I had something every week that I had to do, I would feel it would be a extra stress on top of still getting adjusted to college. I feel like I will be very involved with The Community Service Council because it is flexible and reminds me of the ways I previously did service.
